Victoria’s regional rail network has undergone its biggest upgrade in 120 years. The Victorian Government’s $750 million Regional Fast Rail project will deliver safe, reliable and comfortable services along the Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Latrobe Valley line. With the introduction of faster trains and more services, an uncompromising commitment to safety is central to the Regional Fast Rail project. As some parts of the old signalling system on the Bendigo and Latrobe Valley lines dated back to the 1800s, one of the challenges for the Victorian Government was to implement an entirely new signalling and train detection system.
Solution
We were selected as the supplier for next generation digital axle counter systems. Axle counters provide a reliable, data-based
alternative to conventional train detection systems based on track circuits. Our Axle Counter System accurately detects the presence of trains within defined sections of track and provides "failsafe" information about the location of trains to interlockings and train
control systems
