Customer Requirements
Connex Melbourne provides rail services for the 205 million passenger journeys made on Melbourne's public rail network each week. Passenger numbers substantially increased throughout the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the challenge for Connex was to ensure sufficient rail network and carriage services were available throughout the Commonwealth Games period. The rolling-stock needed to be delivered early to ensure the entire fleet would be operational for the Commonwealth Games.
Solution
We accelerated the train manufacturing and commissioning program for the delivery date of the final tranche of 30 carriages to ensure the entire fleet would be operational for the Commonwealth Games held in March 2006. The previous delivery date had been July 2006. We delivered the major rolling-stock contracts on budget and ahead of schedule, endorsing Siemens with a reputation for reliability throughout the world.
