Customer Requirements
Powerlink needed to improve the North Queensland power system reliability under steady state and contingency conditions. The contract required the scope of work to include electrical, structural and civil design, the supply of all SVC equipment, construction including earthworks, and civil and building works.
Solution
Our work at Strathmore started in November 2006 on a dry patch of dirt in central Queensland. Following a lot of earthwork, civil work, building work, installation and commissioning work, the SVC substation was energised on time and much to the satisfaction of Powerlink. A turnkey 275kV SVC station with a swing range of 80MVAr inductive to 260MVAr capacitive was delivered over an 18-month period. Our successful contract win was attributable to Powerlink's confidence in our ability to deliver a turnkey SVC, as well as their preference to use the latest Siemens SVC technology.
Benefits
