Siemens has added to its extensive Power Management offering with the release of the SENTRON PAC4200 multifunction power monitoring device.
The SENTRON PAC4200 joins the existing SENTRON PAC3200 multifunction power monitoring device, offering enhanced features and a high level of specification.
Suitable for use in Modbus RS465 and Profibus DP networks, the PAC4200 offers a standard Ethernet port with a transmission rate of 100Mbit/sec with built in Modbus gateway, thus enabling the PAC4200 to be used as a master to monitor up to 32 sub devices without a repeater.
A signature of the SENTRON PAC series is the easy to read back lit screen. The new SENTRON PAC-4200 incorporates the same high levels of visibility and display capabilities, but is also easily configured to visually show specific values, displayed in either 2 or 4 parameters, that can be shown in a combination of either bar graph or printed values.
The SENTRON PAC4200 is able to monitor up to 200 values, with 12 limits available for setting over-range and undershoot. And to ensure set limits are maintained, it is supplied standard with 2 digital inputs and 2 digital outputs, enabling the setting of alarms or limit value signalling. Further I/Os can also be added via an optional DI/DO expansion module (available mid 2009).
Harmonics can be particularly damaging in electronic devices, as excessive harmonic levels in the odd multiples (3rd, 9th, 15th etc) can build up in the neutral phase. As the neutral phase is not often dimensioned to carry these currents, this can cause overheating and resultant damage and failure within electronic circuits. An important development feature of the SENTRON PAC4200 is its capability to measure and monitor these harmful harmonics up to the 31st harmonic for both voltage and current, enabling true RMS measurement, which makes it particularly useful for monitoring power quality.
For further transparency in processing and the most comprehensive cost centre value detection of the measured data, the SENTRON PAC devices are very easily integrated into superior automation and power management systems.
Siemens SIMATIC Powerrate power management software packages are available to suit both process and control networks, and when combined with the SENTRON PAC monitoring devices, provide the ultimate in energy management systems.
