Siemens has designed its new radar level transmitter Sitrans LR250 with unique ‘Process Intelligence’ advanced signal processing. The plug-and-play compact 25 GHz 2-wire radar transmitter is easy to install and quick to configure. The level of liquids or slurries can be accurately and reliably measured in minutes. The new transmitter is particularly suitable for chemical, pharmaceutical and hydrocarbon processing applications, including corrosive environments.
The compact horn allows installation in small openings and the concentrated high frequency beam ensures interference from vessel walls is minimal. A high frequency and narrow transmission pulse means the complete vessel capacity can be measured. The Sitrans LR250 is equipped with polyester powder-coated aluminum enclosure, encapsulated electronics, glass antenna seal, stainless steel horn and optional hastelloy antenna material.
“The multilingual Quick Start Wizard guides you to program the transmitter using a few parameters, and has the Sitrans LR250 measuring in minutes,” said Brad Stewart, Siemens Industrial Automation & Control Product Manager.
“The transmitter can be programmed via the intrinsically safe infrared handheld programmer or remotely using Simatic PDM without opening the lid of the device, thus preventing exposure of the electronics to aggressive atmospheres,” he said.
The new graphical local user interface (LUI) displays echo profiles and diagnostic information allowing the user to determine dynamics in the tank at a glance. The Sitrans LR250 includes self-diagnostic features that are communicated to the local display and across networks. For example, a timer can be preset to alert the user of a required maintenance or a scheduled quality check.
The new ’Process Intelligence’ signal processing evaluates dynamic echo signals. It applies algorithms (based on field data collected from over one million level measurement applications) to raw echoes to produce accurate and reliable level measurement readings. It can automatically ignore obstructions and is the processor behind the more advanced features such as diagnostic tools, Quick Start Wizard and Auto False-Echo Suppression. It also contains a new algorithm that improves the measurement accuracy in the low level of vessels containing low dielectric media.
