SIMATIC WinCC/DataMonitor V6.2 is now available

August 2007

The SIMATIC WinCC/DataMonitor V6.2 (formerly Dat@Monitor) is a component of SIMATIC WinCC/Plant Intelligence. With the WinCC/DataMonitor, data from the process level can be provided to the office world.

The newly set up WinCC/DataMonitor V6.2 offers a collection of powerful functions for the analysis and depiction of data from the production. With it, you gain direct access to the production data via the Intranet or Internet. With the tools of the WinCC/DataMonitor, the user can:

  • Efficiently monitor and analyze production lines
  • Support decisions with reports
  • View the production status at any time and from anywhere

To the proven functions, the two components WebCenter and Reports have been newly added. In addition, the Trends & Alarms were expanded and adapted to the new WebCenter. The WinCC/DataMonitor consists of the functions:

  • Published Reports (new)
  • Excel Workbooks (formerly Dat@Workbook)
  • Process Screens (formerly Dat@Symphony)
  • WebCenter (new)
  • Trends & Alarms (formerly Dat@View)

Furthermore, a single license is available starting with Version 6.2.

New Features

Published Reports
published_reports"Published Reports" is a function newly added in Version 6.2.
With the WinCC/DataMonitor function "Published Reports", print jobs from WinCC and prepared Excel workbooks can be used for the output of analysis results and process data. The data - that up to now was available in a print job from WinCC or in an Excel workbook - can be retrieved via the Internet in "Published Reports". The report is executed event-controlled or time-controlled. The generated reports are stored centrally on the DataMonitor server in either a "public" area, which is accessible by all users, or in a "private" area, which is only accessible by the respective user.

"Published Reports" distinguish themselves through the following key features:

  • Parameter setting and execution of report templates in the Internet Explorer via an installation-free client
  • Automatic filling out of prepared DataMonitor Excel workbooks or WinCC reports
  • Time-controlled generation of reports: hourly, daily, weekly, monthly
  • Event-controlled generation of reports
  • Generation of PDF files from WinCC report templates
  • Downloading of reports from the DataMonitor server
  • Automatic distribution of reports by e-mail
  • Storing of reports either as public reports or as private reports

Excel Workbooks
excel_workbook"Excel Workbooks" replace the former "Dat@Workbook".
With "Excel Workbooks" of the WinCC/DataMonitor, it is possible to display alarms and values of a WinCC project's process or archive tags in an Excel table. Besides the current values, additional information - such as timestamp or quality code of the tag - can be displayed as well. In Excel, the user can further process the data or graphically format it.

With the Excel Workbook Wizard, Excel-based reports can be published for WinCC data and thus made available to the Intranet/Internet.

Excel Workbooks offers:

Direct access to the WinCC data from Microsoft Excel

  • VBA interface for integrating Excel workbooks into own applications
  • Automatic login for the automatic generation of Excel reports (see "Published Reports")
  • Opening of "Published Reports" in the browser or in Excel

Process Screens
process_screens"Process Screens" replace the former "Dat@Symphony".
The WinCC/DataMonitor function "Process Screens" serves purely for the monitoring of and navigation across WinCC process screens with the MS Internet Explorer, and is thus a so-called "view-only client". It can navigate through the process screens - and the controls contained therein - that have been published for the Internet. The cursor - in the form of a so-called "view-only cursor" - indicates that no process-relevant operations are possible.

Analogous to the WinCC/Web Navigator, new functionality is supported with the "Process Screens":

  • Screens utilizing own header files in C scripts can be displayed without adaptations by the DataMonitor
  • User-defined standard functions can be displayed in the Web View Publisher and are thus enabled for use at the Web client
  • WinCC screens, in which indirect addressing is used, can now be posted to the Web without modification
  • Functions and display possibilities of the Basic Process Control are now also supported at the DataMonitor

WebCenter
webcenter"WebCenter" is a function newly added in Version 6.2.
With the "WebCenter" of the WinCC/DataMonitor, Internet pages for the depiction of WinCC data can be easily created online and without an "installation download". The "WebCenter" provides the possibility of combining different views, e.g. for the management or the maintenance technicians. The "WebCenter" is the central information portal for the access to WinCC data via the Intranet or Internet, and serves as the center for the creation and management of "WebCenter" pages. In a "WebCenter" page, the user can arrange and save the "WebParts" (the DataMonitor objects to be displayed ) to create screen views. Thus, the parallel display of process data and data from the alarm archives is possible for any absolute or relative time period.

Different display types are provided by separate "WebParts":

  • Depiction of process values in tabular fo
  • Calculation and output of process values over consistent time slices
  • Display of statistics functions for process values
  • Output of trend display for process values
  • Bar charts for process values (aggregates)
  • Pie charts for process values (aggregates)
  • Depiction of the hit list of the alarms
  • Depiction of alarms in tabular form
  • Arranging of links between "WebCenter" pages
  • Providing of links to external Internet pages
  • Display of information that is to be output at specific times
  • Integration and display of bitmaps
  • Offer for selection the last created reports

Trends & Alarms
"Trends & Alarms" replace the former "Dat@View".
"Trends & Alarms" are used for the display and analysis of process values and alarms archived in WinCC. Via predefined pages, the user selects the WinCC data to be displayed as well as the desired absolute or relative time period.

Featuring the same look and feel as the WebCenter, "Trends & Alarms" offer the following functions:

  • Multiple X and Y axes (up to three axes)
  • Configurable absolute or relative time period
  • Access to the WinCC/Central Archive Server (WinCC CAS)
  • Savable configuration with WebCenter functionality
  • Limitation of the decimal places
  • Adjustable colours for the trend display

Single License for the WinCC/DataMonitor
With the new single license, existing systems with only a single analysis station can be supplemented - for example - with the WebCenter functionality for the production management. Thus, a bridge from the production level to the management level is built with minimal effort. A license is occupied at the server as long as a DataMonitor client - independent of the functionality used - is connected with the DataMonitor server.
