Siemens Integrated Automation and Control has just released the first ever device to directly link safety devices at the actuator level of ASI and be able to individually evaluate them in the Safety PLC.

ASI F-Link module providing a safe connection from the sensor level on ASi Safe to PROFIsafe on Profibus.
This single device means all devices on the ASI bus can be evaluated by the S7 CPU. Safety devices including Emergency stops, Gates and Light Curtains can be included in the Safety program of an S7 F meaning the ASi devices can now be truly integrated into the higher level PLC.
Cost savings are immediate when using the S7 F PLC as an ASI Master is no longer required. Another Key benefit is that you now have complete PLC functionality for ASi Safety devices making more complex tasks much easier.
Safety outputs are achieved via S7 modules located in the PLC rack or distributed over Profibus or Profinet. The F-Link module is suitable for applications up to and including category 4.
