The integration of Bayer Diagnostics and Diagnostics Products Corporation (DPC) to form Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics Pty. Ltd. marks a significant milestone for the company as it becomes the first full service diagnostics company in the world.
Bayer Diagnostics and Diagnostic Products Corporation (DPC), acquired by Siemens Medical Solutions in July 2006, were merged into a single business on 1 January 2007 in Europe and the United States. In Australia and New Zealand, the new company will commence operations on 1 June 2007.
Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics General Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Nino Totino, said that combining the strengths of these companies puts Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics in a unique position in the Australian and New Zealand healthcare industry to leverage available and rapidly developing technologies for delivering improved quality of patient care at reduced costs.
“We are employing over 100 people in Australia and New Zealand bringing together the entire medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics and clinical information technology (IT) value chain under one roof, bridging the gap between in-vivo and in-vitro diagnostics.
“Our team offers a unique capability of expertise and technologies in diagnostic imaging, healthcare IT, molecular biology, and biochemistry to our customers, driving and leading the advancement of personalised healthcare,” Mr Totino said.
Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics maintains leading market positions in the fields of clinical chemistry, immunoassay, and laboratory automation. The company also develops solutions for the rapidly growing markets of molecular diagnostics and gene analysis with the aim of continuing to improve personalised medicine.
Siemens Medical Solutions Diagnostics will offer a comprehensive portfolio for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide array of illnesses such as adrenal/pituitary dysfunction, allergy, anaemia, diabetes and reproductive and thyroid disorders, infectious diseases, kidney ailments, cardiology, oncology, diabetes and virology.
