Matthew Barber – Transportation Systems Graduate Electrical Engineer
I began my career at Siemens in January 2007 in the Transportation Systems group. There’s a lot to learn when you begin a career at Siemens, but for those who take on the challenge, the career possibilities are outstanding. From the beginning you’ll work with tradesmen, suppliers and contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and at the highest quality. You’ll also interact with client engineers to ensure the best solutions possible.
Already, I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of projects that will positively affect the everyday lives of Australians. One of the best aspects of working for Siemens is the knowledge that you’re working for a company whose products and solutions help to make the world a better place. As an engineer, that is really satisfying.
Jane Colton – Environmental Sustainability Coordinator
I joined Siemens in 2006 as the Corporate Quality, Safety and Environment Graduate. My role has since evolved to become Environmental Sustainability Coordinator. My job involves developing, coordinating and communicating environmental programs and initiatives to ensure continual improvement in our environmental performance.
My work is challenging and diverse. In my first year I developed our company’s Environmental Sustainability Policy, created an employee Environmental Network and attended a variety of environmental conferences. My position within Siemens has allowed me to utilise what I have learnt at university and, most importantly, to build on my skills and knowledge through the company’s commitment to continuous learning and development. I really enjoy working for Siemens; it’s motivating and rewarding to work for an innovative and diverse company that embraces its responsibility to protect the environment.
Campbell McPherson – Procurement & Logistics Graduate Commercial Officer
I joined Siemens as a commercial graduate two years ago. My first rotation was in the Industry Solutions group, where I performed diverse tasks such as project controlling, month-end closing, contract management, forecasting and reporting. Interesting projects I’ve worked on include providing an integrated automation solution for a pharmaceutical company, building customised water purification systems for public utilities, and implementing control systems on the Australian Navy's ANZAC frigates.
Currently, I am working in Siemens' Strategic Procurement department where I manage a number of spend categories. This involves working with our suppliers and stakeholders to coordinate our spend and maintain an optimised supply chain. In addition to my daily responsibilities, I'm also undertaking a Business Improvement Project with other Siemens graduates.
Involvement in project groups and rotations to different departments has provided exposure to various Siemens operations, and allowed me to work with colleagues throughout Australia and New Zealand.
